Why a Community Land Trust?

Because affordable housing shouldn’t vanish after one sale. It should change lives—over and over again.

In Jacksonville, we’ve watched too many affordable homes slip away. A property is built or renovated with subsidies to help one family… but when it sells again, it’s gone. Priced out. Another home lost to the market. Another opportunity closed.

At the Jacksonville Community Land Trust (JCLT), we do things differently.

We don’t just create affordable housing—we protect it. Permanently.

Through the Community Land Trust model, JCLT holds the land in trust for the good of the community. Homebuyers purchase only the home—at a reduced price—and when they’re ready to move on, the home is resold to another income-qualified buyer at an affordable price. This ensures every public dollar invested helps family after family, year after year.

This model breaks the cycle of displacement, gentrification, and vanishing affordability. It keeps people rooted. It builds equity, stability, and intergenerational opportunity—not just for traditional families, but for single adults, older adults, first-time buyers, and everyday people who simply want a place to call home.

At JCLT, we believe everyone deserves that chance—and we believe it should last.

When you support the Jacksonville Community Land Trust, you’re not just helping one household. You’re investing in a legacy. You’re choosing a smarter, more just, more sustainable way to build a stronger Jacksonville—where homeownership is not a fleeting privilege, but a permanent promise.
